Wine Facts - Some Interesting Facts That You Should Know About Drinking Wine
By Jason W. Myers
Wine is a common alcoholic beverage and one that enjoys a huge crowd of followers. It is the oldest refreshment that has gone for millennia on end with no signs of fading from the picture. It dates back to over 5000 BC where the earliest civilizations started the fruit fermenting process. Today, vineyards are handful with some of the biggest being found in Italy, France and in Spain.
Basically the process of making wine is simple. Once the grapes have matured out in the field, they are harvested, crushed and encouraged to ferment. Later, yeast converts the resultant fermentation product into alcohol. Soon after this process is complete the wine is stored for maturity to take place. The period of time depends in the brand in question as this time ranges from a few months to a few years. The notion is that as it ages it gets better but unfortunately not all kinds if wines do. That do get better with time are among the highest sold ones, with others being stored for hundreds of years.
Since everything in existence has a name, grapes have names too, and in most instances, these names are used in naming the wine. Fine example is Chardonnay which is made with Chardonnay grapes. Types of wine vary depending on the details of the fermentation process. Red wine is made when the grapes are crushed and fermented with their skins still intact. White wine is made from the actual juice of the grapes, or when the grapes are peeled, then crushed and fermented. Champagne or sparkling wine is made when carbonation is encouraged via a second fermentation process.
The best kind of wine is a balanced one, with the balance being in the taste, alcohol content, acidity among others. Wine tasters are the experts that can be able to pick out all these via the process of wine tasting.
