After getting my finger pinched on a brass winged corkscrew I decided it was time to research a different design in wine openers. Considered an electric corkscrew but didn’t want another item on my counter…plus they seem so TALL. This one is 6 3/4″ tall and I think quite attractive in my kitchen tool drawer.
I chose this OXO model because I like OXO products and it appeared more sturdy than the less expensive plastic model.
It works effortlessly. You just place on the bottle turn and turn and keep turning the same direction and the cork comes all the way out. Reverse the turns to remove the cork. And best of all, no pinching or pulling.
My only minor quibble is the foilcutter top is harder to get off than I would like. You squeeze the two indented “buttons” on the sides with one hand while lifting the top off with the other. The top is 2 3/4″ wide. I can’t squeeze both buttons with one hand so I have to press with my thumb, releasing one side then turn it over and press the other to remove the foilcutter. A man with larger hands and more strength probably could do it in one move. I would still highly recommend this corkscrew or cork pull or whatever you want to call this wine opener.

I’d used an Oxo corkscrew with the black plastic wings for years, then it broke on one of those plastic “corks.” I replaced it with the same kind, which broke in about 3 weeks, so I decided it was time for a different model. I tried a couple other variations, including a Screwpull, but I love this one! It’s really easy to use – you don’t have to struggle to keep it lined up correctly. I don’t have a lot of hand strength, so I had worried that there might not be enough leverage, that it might be difficult to turn, but that’s not the case. It feels very sturdy, and the screw goes into the cork very easily, even the dense and sticky plastic ones. Like most Oxo products, they’ve made it comfortable to use. After you pull the cork from the bottle, you can continue to turn the handle, and the cork ejects itself from the screw. The built-in foil cutter is nice too.

This is by far the best cork screw ever made. I have used a friend’s older model for years. First of all, it’s simple: clockwise in; counterclockwise out. Second, this newer model even has a foil cutter that works. Third, the design is the most elegant you will ever see in a cork screw. Fourth, not only does the handle contain the hidden foil cutter, it provides an excellent grip. I couldn’t remember its name and searched the web for hours, looking at hundreds of cork screws in vain trying to find a similar looking model. Turns out I only needed to remember one word: OXO.

OMG! I cannot say enough about this wine opener. I cant believe there are only 4 reviews on this magical prodect but then again maybe most people are as excited by wine the way I am. I was hesitant to spend the money with out ever handling the opener but after looking at consumer reports reviews and finding a good deal on ebay I went for it. i couldnt be more happy, i giggle like a school girl whenever using it. It comes with this super cool and easy to use foil cutter hidden in the top half. The opener itself you just pop it over the top, un cork it and then the cork comes out easily when you turn it the opposite way. 123 EASY!

I had a T-fal wine opener for years but wanted something a little more elegant looking with the same ease of use. We purchased the OXO opener last week and I highly recommend it. The cutters are nicely tucked into the handle which is easily removed, and the corks come out of the wine bottles with ease. I would most certainly recommend this product.
