At a nicer restaurant, is it appropriate to suggest that your dining companion alter their selection?
I'm talking about stuff like ordering a dry white wine with beef or a well done lamb chop. Of course the suggestion would be gentle so not to embarrass them in front of the waiter.
When I say nice, I'm referring to a restaurant better than Applebees.
OMG!
Wow, I almost did not click to answer you because I thought[my mistake!] that you might be thinking of asking her to order something less expensive. I feel pretty bad about that , so have a star! The kind of advice that you are speaking of, if presented politely, should be welcomed by any dinner partner, female or male. Many people that appreciate fine dining have not experienced every wine with every food on the menu. I have dined in many Five Star restaurants and would always welcome a suggestion that might enhance my experience. A very insecure person might be defensive because they are under the misconception that someone offering advice is implying that they are not a person of culture, when in fact, individual tastes can vary in the most sophisticated of palates.
