wine rack end table

staining rubberwood furniture?
I have just acquired a coffee table, end table, and wine rack. They are all from Target and made of rubberwood. They are a very light color and i wish to stain them darker. I have done staining projects before, but not on something already finished from a store. What necessary steps should i take? any help would be greatly appreciated.
You have to strip the finish before you can stain them. Stain, even the stain/varnish products already mentioned, will not penetrate the existing finish and you may end up with a smeared, sticky mess. You can sand, use chemical paint and varnish remover, or a combination of the two to get the old finish off down to the wood.
