Hi! First time wine maker, just bought an equipment kit. I have started off by making (attempting to make) blueberry wine. I've let it ferment in my primary bucket thing for a week, and I'm about to rack it into my glass carboy. My question is, how do I attach the airlock to the carboy? I've looked at pictures online, and it seems that there is some type of liquid in the airlock? Yes? No? I have a big rubber cork thing, and several plastic bits that go with the airlock. Where do all these pieces fit?
The fermentation lock should have a little etched line on it somewhere around the middle. The cork stopper obviously goes into the neck of the carboy and you fill the lock about half full with either clean water or the sodium sulphide solution you used to sterilize the carboy.
The Carbon Dioxide bubbles through the water and out but no air can get back into the carboy and contaminate the must.
I hope it all turns out and that you can enjoy your wine. Let me know when it's ready and I'll help you out with a bottle.
